topic Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Unlocking of Difficulties:
Hazard- is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or
environment.
Risk- the possibility that something bad or unpleasant (such as an injury or a loss) will
happen.

3. Risk Control – this is a technique that gathers the information taken from risk
assessment that helps the management in creating plans and changes to
reduce the chances of these risks to happen in a workplace.
Classification of Hazard
1. Physical – any hazard that comes from environmental factors (Noise from
drill vibration)
2. Biological – a living or once-living that have a potential to poses a threat to
human health. (Blood, fungi, bacteria)
3. Chemical- any hazard that comes from solid, liquid or gas element,
compound or mixture that could cause health problems or pollution.
(Cleaning product, pesticide)
4. Ergonomic- hazards that can create physical and psychological stresses
because of forceful or repetitive work, improper work techniques, or poorly
designed tools and workspaces. (Poor lighting, poor posture)
5. Psychosocial – aspects of the work environment and the way that the work
is organized that are associated with psychiatric, psychological and / or
physical injury or illness. (Stress, bullying, sexual harassment)
