Fernando Amorsolo is a painter best known for his love of the Philippine rural landscapes,

which often showed traditional Filipino culture, occupations, and fiestas. One of his great
artworks was entitled “The Harvesters”, it depicts the everyday life of the farmers in the
Philippines. Looking at the form of this artwork, it showed a variety of the colors that are
lively and very pleasing to the eyes. In contrast with this, it shows that even though the
Filipino farmers are having difficulties in harvesting grains, they still work for us and
provide us food. On the other hand, the background does not overpower the subject
matter, instead, it helps highlight the main focus of the painting. Oil on canvas is the
medium used by Fernando Amorsolo, for it dries slowly and is flexible enough to blend
with other colors. The main figure in the artwork are the farmers and the crops, other
figures such as the carabao and Bahay Kubo, which is our “Pambansang Tirahan” and
“Pambansang Hayop”, affects the main subject for it depicts the simple life of the farmers
and the process of transporting crops.
