The characters in the story “How ilang-ilang got its name” are

as follow:

Ilang - The heroine of the story. She was the prettiest lass in the
town of Tayabas. She was wooed by many rich suitors, but gave
her heart to a poor farmer, which made her parents angry.

Edo - The heroine’s love interest. Since Ilang ang Edo were
forbidden to see each other, they devised a way to meet
secretly. Their rendezvous place was at the stream near the
edge of the forest.

Ilang’s parents - They wanted Ilang to marry a rich man so they

disliked Edo due to his poor social status. Ilang’s father caught
her in one of their secret meetings, which led to Ilang’s house
arrest, and later to her demise.

The townspeople - They were the ones who noticed the

wonderful scent that came from the flower that bloomed in
Ilang’s burial site. Edo died while calling ilang’s name so the
flower was called “Ilang-ilang.”
