CONCEPT PAPER FOR AN ADVOCACY

Improper Waste Management in Cavite

Through the years, the innovation of machine and technology helped our economy
to boost the production and creation of products in the market and because of these, we
became a global consumer society. We are now living in an instant phase in which we
just purchase and use a huge variety of items which makes our lives easier and more
comfortable, but because of the misbehavior of the majority of people towards waste
management, it created a massive impact on the environment and here we are
experiencing a lot of environmental dilemmas. A lot of garbages can be seen in our
everyday life as we go to other places and some can also be seen in the act of recklessly
throwing their wastes.

Waste management is all of the activities that handle waste from the time it is made
to its disposal and it composes of the collection, transport and disposal of waste
materials. Considering as one of the environmental issues that we are currently
experiencing, Improper Waste Management is rampant in a lot of places especially here
in Cavite. This province is generating its wastes from residences, industrial and market
wastes and its population according to Philippine Statistics Authority resulted to 3.6M+
in 2015 which greatly affected the volume of wastes being produced in the province. It
can also be seen in the Cavite Socio-Economic and Physical Profile (2012) that the
highest volume of residential wastes was observed in the City of Bacoor with 260 tons
of wastes daily, followed by the City of Dasmariñas which produces 250 tons per day
and the third is City of Imus with 130 tons.

Proper garbage collection, segregation and is really a must, especially here in the
Philippines because as we all know, our country disposes products, recycles many
materials and that means trashes should be collected immediately because garbage
comes right away. We cannot stop having garbage in our daily life, we cannot avoid it
but we can organize it so that it will not be a burden to each and every one of us.
Appropriate and environmentally accepted manner of waste management is
necessary in order to promote environmental protection and development.

We’re not just the one who will suffer but the future generation so we need to take
in charge of changing our ways on how to deal with this problem.
