u TOEFL evaluates the potential success of an


individual to use and understand Standard
American English at a college level.
u Required for non-native applicants at many
English-speaking colleges and universities.

TOEFL SCORE

u A TOEFL score is valid for two years and then


is deleted from the official database.

u Thepaper version of the TOEFL is scored on a


scale of 217 to 677 points.

u Tostudy abroad, students are usually required


to have 500 to 550 points.
How to calculate TOEFL score?
READING section

§ There are 50 questions in reading


comprehension section which have to be
answered within 55 minutes.
§ It means that you have 1,1 minute for each
question.
Most common problems :
u Readpassage paragraph before reading the
questions
u Don’t know when to SKIM and SCAN
u Studentsthink they have to understand entire
passage to answer questions
u Try
to know the meaning of every word in the
passage
u Spend to much time on the first passage
General TIPS
§ Don’t spend too much time to read the
passages.
§ It would be OK if you are not familiar with the
topic of the passages.
§ Go directly to parts in the passages that deal
with the questions.
§ Managing the time, learning the strategies,
reading a lot of academic texts are of the
essence.
