Altitude affects everyone differently, and there seems to not be affected by someone's
health or general fitness, it can be quite random. The best thing to do to prepare yourself
is to ascend gradually and ensure you do not over-exert yourself for the first day or two. On
this trip we spend three nights in Arequipa, which is 2400m above sea level, before then
moving on to Cusoc at 3400m, from where you do the Inca Trail. This means by the time
you are trekking you have already been at altitude for almost a week.
