"GURU NANAK BIRDH, ANATH, APAHAJ,
NETARHEEN ASHRAM" was established by Baba Dyal
Singh Ji. He served the society by helping the needy for 26
years at special ashram established by "Namdhari Society".
After this service he went abroad but his urge to help poor,
handicapped and other people in need brought him back to
India. In 2003, he came back to India, bought land on
installments and with the aid of his wife Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur
and family and with his nephew S. Amrik Singh, laid the
foundation of this ashram.
With contributions of locals, the ashram was ready with
one room and kitchen. At first one old couple took residence
there. With time more people with needs took this ashram as
home and it evolved with help from locals and other kind
people. Till April 2017, almost 210 people are living happily in
ashram. Most of the residents of ashram are between age 65 to
95 and some are even suffering from dangerous diseases. Time
to time, with the help of donations ashram is able to help these
needy people by serving free food and providing other
facilities. Though, there is no permanent source of income for
this ashram but with the blessings of GOD more and more
people are coming forward to help. You all are also requested
to contribute to this service to society and get blessings of
GOD.
INTRODUCTION
I got a chance to work in NGO for 30 hours. The name of the
NGO “GURU NANAK BIRDH, ANATH, APAHIJ, NETRAHEEN,
ASHRAM”.
My responsibility is to help the NGO to carry out their daily
routine work. I used to go to NGO 9am in the morning. I were
treated with kindness and warmth. I observed that there is
two types of people one who was abandoned and other were
suffering from some sort of disability. They were in hunger of
love and to love. The people of Ngo were very compatible
and friendly. They treated me with their smile and did not
reflect any problem.
The time spent with them taught me a lesson for life time.
There I learnt about true life and sharing and caring. There
were hundred inmates in home. They all financially depend
on their family and on charity. All of them were lonely and
carving for love. They share their personal story with me. The
care shown to them by the workers at home was indeed
inspiring.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION AND CAUSES
OF PROBLEM

 Most of the people living in the NGO was suffering from

mental disorder that was the reason they were not able
to understand anything.
 The mental disorder is mainly due to age as well as
some of the children were suffering from some physical
problems.
 Running Ngo is not easy task because the Ngo function
is totally depend on the charity.

EFFECTIVNESS OF THE PROJECT

 a long-term endeavour
 well-planned
 inclusive and equitable
 holistic and integrated into the bigger picture
 initiated and supported by community members
 of benefit to the community
 grounded in experience that leads to best practices
Community development is a grassroots process by which
communities:
 become more responsible
 organize and plan together
 develop healthy lifestyle options
 empower themselves
 reduce poverty and suffering
 create employment and economic opportunities
 achieve social, economic, cultural and environmental
goals
Community development seeks to improve quality of life.
Effective community development results in mutual benefit
and shared responsibility among community members. Such
development recognizes:
 the connection between social, cultural, environmental
and economic matters
 the diversity of interests within a community
 its relationship to building capacity
Community development helps to build community capacity
in order to address issues and take advantage of
opportunities, find common ground and balance competing
interests. It doesn’t just happen – capacity building requires
both a conscious and a conscientious effort to do something
(or many things) to improve the community.

CONCLUSION
The working with NGO was very nice felling for me. I feel blessed to get the
chance to spent time with special people.
After doing that project I want to tell you all that we should take initiative to
work with such type of Ngo because without our support NGO’s cannot work
properly and effectively. The people who are living there have hunger for love.
They need our support. We should come forward to help the NGO’s.
The people living there they need family. We can become their family. They do
not need anything apart from our love. It is a humble request from me that we
should go to NGO’s at least once in a week and spend time with them. Trust
me you feel very good.
