Philosophy of Education

The Purpose of education is to teach and make a difference in students lives. I believe

education is more than teaching a lesson and giving tests, it is about making a difference in

education. It is about building strong bonds between a teacher and a student, this to me is the

most attribute of teaching and education. Having an educator that can make school and learning

more enjoyable is what education is all about. As a teacher you are not just teaching students,

you are building relationships with children and young adults. As a student myself, a teacher that

can build a relationship with me is very important because as an IEP student I was always

brought down by advisors and other fellow students but it was certain teachers that made me

believe that I could be where I am today. My role as a teacher would be to always make sure that

students will always feel comfortable with who they are, I will always value my students'

opinions and concerns, and I will be there for them for any need that they may have.

As a teacher, I know I will not be teaching one group of the same students who have the

same background. I will be teaching students who have different backgrounds and that their

diversity will change the classroom. I will teach all of my students how they want to be taught. I

want my students to feel comfortable to tell me if something is not working and to feel confident

to ask for more help. In my classroom, my learners will know that they are all loved and know

that school is not always about lessons but it is also about having fun while still gaining valuable

knowledge. I want my students to have goals for their future and by doing so at the beginning of

the year I will give them a goal setting sheet and at the end of the year I will give them a new one

and then they can compare and see what changes. I think by doing this it will give students more

hope for the future.

I believe that all students learn differently. Some students can learn faster than others,

some can take tests and other can not. I understand where many of these students are coming

from, with my background of being a “slower” learner and bad at test taking, I want to make

learning accessible for every learner. Instructional strategies will impact my beliefs because I can

create lessons that most students will be able to grasp. I will not overload my students because I

want them to enjoy learning and not resent it. I will balance the needs of my individual learners

with the needs of the entire class by creating activities where everyone can participate in.

Classroom management will also be very important to me in my future classroom. I will hold

students accountable for their behavior by making them think about what they actually did and

how it affected whoever/whatever. I will have classroom procedures posted all around the room

to limit confusion among the class. My goals for my students are to always know they are smart.

No matter what anyone tells them, they are smart and they can keep going.

Global awareness is important and I will implement it in my classroom by teaching not

only historical events but also teaching my students about how cultural, environmental, social,

economic, and social events impact those historical events and current events. My relationship

with people other than my students will be friendly and straightforward. I hope I can create a

community where the parents also feel comfortable to come and talk to me about the concerns of

their children. I hope that I can build trust with my fellow colleagues, administrators and parents.
