1. PURPOSE:
This procedure defines the guidelines to collection, storage & disposal for various kinds of scrap
materials (Solid, liquid)
2. SCOPE:
3. RESPONSIBILITY:
All employees / House keeping staff / to follow HODs are responsible the procedures applicable.
4. PROCEDURE
Ensure you know the emergency exit routes, emergency exits and emergency assembly
areas. If you are not trained to handle emergency situation try to get out of the area
immediately and reach safely at nearest designated assembly area.
Ensure that availability of different colour bins for collection / disposal of wastes as under: -
Plastic material Used waste covers, Plastic bags. Plastic trays Specified Area
PPE waste Hand Gloves, Goggles, Masks, Shoes, Ear Plugs, Specified Area

Collect chemical/ solvent wastages such as Paint Sludge, Thinner, and waste oil are & store in
Hazardous waste storage yard with clear identification.
Refer MSDS sheets of chemical /solvents/ hazardous materials displayed near
storage area.
Use all personals are wearing respective PPEs while working in scrap yard.
Ensure that the fire extinguisher, sand bucket, water point is available at scrap
yard, incase of fire at scrap yard area.
Ensure that all wastages collected during the process are disposed at scrap yard.
o Burrs
o Used chemical /solvents wastages such as Paint Sludge, Oil &
Lubricants.
o Wastages during maintenance activity such as cotton waste dipped
in oil, wires & cables / lead acid batteries.
o Process rejected materials such as MS waste, jigs, etc
o Empty liquid cans / chemical barrels / containers.
o PPEs
Used chemical wastages are sold to vendor approved by the State Pollution
Control Board.
Used oil are sold to vendor approved by the State Pollution Control Board
Ensure that no degradation of waste due to rain or other natural process.
All food waste should be collected & disposed to Hog feeding or Piggery.
Ensure that no drainages are left open.
Housekeeping waste liquids, to be let into drain which leads to septic tank.
Waste from septic tank cleaning should be disposed to specified pit with proper
landfill.
Domestic effluent from toilet to be let into septic tank for treatment

6. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Ergonomic related disabilities due to lifting of heavy boxes (e.g. strain / sprain on the
back, neck, & shoulders & knees)
Skin disorders due to unsafe handling of hazardous waste / chemicals
Headache, suffocation due to prolonged exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Damage to internal organs incase of ingestion of hazardous chemicals.
Incase of fire use sand /pour water / use fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire.
Incase of any hazardous materials contact with skin wash your hands with soap &
water.
The operators should be trained for onsite emergency preparedness.
Incase of coolant oil spillage, use sponge to clean the coolant & collect the coolant
in bucket by sponge, filter the coolant oil & reuse the coolant oil.

Display boards (MSDS, Cautions, Instructions, etc).
