Artist Profile Information about the Artist
 Is recognized as the master mat weaver among the Sama
indigenous community of Ungos Matata.
 She has been called the “weaver of rainbows”.
Brief Biography  She is respected throughout her community for her unique
designs, the straightness of her edging (tabig) and the
fineness of her sasa and kima-kima.
 They characterize her as a patient and gentle teacher, Haja
Amina’s passion for perfection shows itself as she runs a
finger alongside the uneven stitching and obvious
patchwork on her apprentices’ work.

Major Works  RAINBOWS, a matweaving creation by Haja Amina Appi.

 Amina was recognized as a Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan


Awards (GAMABA) awardee in 2005.
 She uses dyes and geometric patterns, exhibit her precise
Style sense of design, proportion, symmetry and sensitivity to
color.

 Is a Sulod-Bukidnon epic chanter from Kalinog, Iloilo who
ceaselessly works for the documentation of the oral
Brief Biography literature, particularly the epics, of his people.
 He is also called Nong Pedring learned about epics from
his mother and his grandmother.
 He is considered as a bantugan due to his positive
influence extending beyond his community.

 He made his first studies in Brazilian schools, Adela


Speratti and Artigas, respectively, and high school at the

Colegio de San Lui, always in the city of Asuncion.
