Name of Lesson: Nouns, Nouns whats in a Noun?

Grade Level: 3rd

Suggested Group Size: Class as a whole

Subject: English Language Arts


Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.1

Objective: Students will be able to explain the role of a noun and identify a noun in a sentence.

Materials: White board, dry erase markers, paper, scissors, glue, markers

Procedure: Teacher will ask students what a noun is. After taking a few answers from students
the teacher will explain that a noun is a person, place or thing. Write sentences on the white
board and have students come up and circle the nouns in the sentences. After a few practice
sentences as a class, pass out a sheet of paper. The students will cut three lines to make three
column folds. Students will be instructed to label each fold as a “Person, place and thing”. Then
the students will write at minimum three examples of the specific noun in a picture form.

Assessment: Students will be assessed by if they accurately chose nouns for their project.
