Frieze Patterns
‘A Frieze pattern is a strip in which a shape or “motif” is translated repeatedly such as the ones
below. Most Frieze patterns also contain other symmetry and transformations. For example, in
the first pattern below you can see a horizontal line of symmetry and in the second, vertical lines
of symmetry.

Your job is to create your own Frieze pattern, Remember that in order for it to be a Frieze, you
‘must translate your motif repeatedly by a horizontal vector to create the entire design. (For your
this project, you should translate it at least four times.) In addition, your design must consist of at
least two additional transformations that were studied in this chapter.
‘After you have created your pattern, you need to write a paragraph explaining what the two or
more transformations were that you chose. Also, you need to identify the vector that your motif
is translated by
