LOVE OF COUNTRY
 Rizal wrote his essay when he was
already in Spain, June 1882
DEDICATION REASON
Rizal dedicate it to different women in society:
 Mothers
 Daughters
 Wives
 Unmarried womens
 Rizal created this essay for a defense of
alleged indolence of the Filipinos
 He wanted to end the insults to the
Filipinos about this instilled culture
 He dedicated it to awaken his countrymen
to their own faults and at the same time
condemning the defects in Spain’s
colonial system which causes
shortcomings among Filipinos.
 The message of this essay is wisdom
urged the Filipinos to invest their time,
strength, and knowledge for motherland
VALUES
 It is to pay homage to 20 women of
Malolos who desire to educate themselves
 Rizal created this essay because he sees in
these women a ray of hope in restoring
the Filipino women’s dignity and worth
 Rizal wrote the essay to defend the
Filipinos from the charge that they were
born indolent
 He wrote the essay because there were a
lot of wars, insurrections, expeditions and
invasion. It enumerates several reasons
that may have caused the Filipinos
cultural and economic corruption that
even Filipinos were sent abroad to fight
for Spain or shipyards to construct vessels
– forced labor
 The reason he created this essay because
it is our duty to love our country, and our
conscience dictates that we do everything
that our duty implies.
 He also added that whatever our condition
might be then, let us love our country
always and let us wish nothing but her
welfare.
 Filipino mothers should teach their
children about the love of God, country,
and fellowmen
 Filipino mothers should be glad and
honored, like Spartan mothers, to offer
their sons in defense of their country
 Filipino women should educate
themselves aside from retaining their goof
racial values
 Faith is not merely reciting prayers and
wearing religious pictures. It is living the
real Christian way with good morals and
manners.
 The value that Rizal wants us to attain is
that we need to have a progress in out
country, we have to start from small steps
and small things within ourselves before
focusing on the bigger picture that is more
complicated and we should start to be
more responsible for our own actions and
to make sure that those actions will now
harm anybody and instead benefit
ourselves and country as well.
 It will help us to give value more about
the cultural, religious, and ethnic unity of
a people, patriotism is the love of a
people’s common liberty, which gives us
the strength to resist oppression by the
selfish ambitions of particular individuals.
