YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK IT BY FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE. YOU HAVE
BEEN WARNED!

Changelog of the guide

v1
- Initial release

v1.1
- Included restoring IOS 36 (Thanks xzxero)

v.1.2
- Added Preloader

Explanation of this guide (please read)

This guide will set up your Wii for homebrew, brick protection (not all Wiis) and Wii and GC backup
loading. Make sure to follow all the steps if you want to successfully hack your Wii. Please post any
problems about the guide in this thread.

Before proceeding

What you need:

- a Wii (duh)
- an SD card with at least 1 GB if you want to backup your NAND with at least about 560 for the NAND
backup + the other homebrew on the SD card.
- a WiFi connection for your Wii
- a GameCube controller for GC backups (optional)
- patience

NOTE: Unplug ALL Gamecube memory cards and controllers (better compatibility with applications).

Installing the Homebrew Channel and Bootmii

Download:
BootMii (download the HackMii Installer)
Bannerbomb (download the abd6a version)

1) Extract the hackmii installer. Open the folder that was extracted and you will see a file named boot.elf.
Copy it to the SD card.

2) Extract abd6a.zip to the SD card.

4) Go to the SD Card Menu.

5) If it freezes download and extract another version of Bannerbomb. Once you got the correct file, it will
show Load boot.dol/elf? on the screen. Select yes. You'll be brought to the HackMii Installer scam alert
screen. Wait a few seconds and press 1 when it asks to.

6) The installer will tell you if you can: install BootMii as boot2 (the BEST brick protection there is) or as
IOS only (which offers no protection at all. Press A to continue.

7) Install the HBC (follow the on screen instructions).

8) Go to Bootmii... and press A. You'll get another menu. If you can, install BootMii as boot2 (Best brick
protection) or otherwise as IOS (no brick protection).

NAND Backup

NOTE: make sure you have at least 1 GB SD card for this with at least 560 MB for the NAND backup
and other homebrew.

1) If you installed BootMii as boot2 switch on your Wii and use the Power button to navigate in the
BootMii menu and go over the last option in the menu and press Reset. Press Reset once your over the
option which is an arrow pointing to an SD card and the backup process will start.

2) Copy the nand.bin file from the SD to a safe place on your computer in case you screw up your Wii and
need to restore it.

3) Delete everything on the SD card.

NOTE: If you restore a backup everything you have done in between the backup and now will be lost
that's why I recommend doing a backup often or before trying something new with your Wii.

NOTE: If you installed bootmii as Boot2, the bootmii menu will appear every time you switch on your
Wii. If you don't want this, rename or move the bootmii folder on the SD card.
