DIGITAL FILM MAKING

Harikrishna Sathianandhan
RA1731002010179
BSC Visual Communication
Director
A  movie director  is a person who directs the making of
a  film. A film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic
aspects and visualises the screenplay while guiding the technical
crew and actors in the fulfilment of that vision. The director has a
key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and
the creative aspects of  filmmaking. The director is viewed as
the author of the film.

It is the director’s dream and vision that finally becomes

what is portrayed on the screen. But they also have the
responsibility of keeping the entire production within the
budget of the producer.

There are many pathways to becoming a director. Many

directors get to that point after years of being a cinematographer
or a producer or a film editor etc. Other directors may have
graduated from direction schools. There could be people who
are born with a story teller’s skills and could develop into
directors without any training.

Directors also use different approaches to their work. Some

may be very free with their ideas and allow a lot of creative
freedom to his/her cinematographer or assistants. They may
allow the actors also to give their feedback to the director. Some
directors even take their assistants feedback when they write the
screenplay. There may also be some directors who are very rigid
with their ideas and not allow much freedom to his cast and crew.
Some directors even edit or appear in their movies.
