KCET REQUIREMENTS

Yes, there is a weightage for class 12th exam for KCET. First, is about appearing in KCET.
To appear in KCET exam, you need to have 45% aggregate marks (General category) in class
12th (40% for reserved category). Secondly, class 12th marks are given a 50% weightage
for preparing the merit/rank list of KCET.

The merit list of the candidates in KCET will be prepared based on the marks scored in
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in KCET exam along with the marks scored in Physics,
Chemistry and Mathematics in the qualifying examination or class 12th in the ration of
50:50. So your performance in class 12th as well as that in KCET exam both will equally
matter for your merit/rank list

A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 2nd PUC / 12th
Standard in 2019 whose result is awaited, may apply and appear for Common Entrance
Test 2019 but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to any of the course specified
in 1 above, if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass
percentage of marks.

1. Engineering / Technology courses (B.E. / B.Tech) …Passed in 2nd PUC / 12th Std
/ Equivalent Exam with English as one of the Languages and obtained a Minimum
of 45% of Marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry
/ Bio- Technology / Biology / Electronics / Computer. (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1,
2A, 2B, 3A and 3B category candidates).. By taking marks in equal proportions in
QE and CET in PCM subjects. (No Minimum Marks prescribed in CET)
2. For Engineering / Technology courses: A candidate who has passed the Q. E.
with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry /
Bio-Technology / Biology / Electronics / Computer Science as optional subjects
with English as one of the languages of study and obtained an aggregate
minimum of 45% marks in the optional subjects in the Q. E. is eligible for
Engineering / Technology courses. 40% of marks in Q. E. in case of SC, ST,
Category-I and OBC (2A, 2B, 3A and 3B) Category candidates. Provided that,
the marks obtained by the candidate in Bio-Technology / Biology / Electronics /
Computer Science in the Q. E., will be considered in place of Chemistry, in case
the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for required aggregate percentage, only
for the purpose of determination of eligibility and not for the purpose of
determination of rank, in respect of Engineering / Technology courses. Based on
the performance of the candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
subjects in both Common Entrance Test and the Qualifying Examination by
taking the marks in equal proportions, the Engineering rank list will be prepared
and published
3. Engineering / Technology (B.E. / B.Tech) On the basis of marks obtained by
candidates in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects in Common Entrance
Test– 2019 and the marks obtained by candidates in Physics, Chemistry and

CBSE vs STATE SYLLABUS

• From a syllabus point of view, both the boards have almost the same syllabus.
Depending on what options you are looking for, you need to choose.

• You are looking for Engineering options only in Karnataka State (CET).

• Take PUC board. Easier to score than CBSE. You stand a better chance than
CBSE candidates from a board marks perspective. [Board and CET weightage
is 50/50]. You can always go for coaching to BASE/ACE or any of the people
who specialize on CET coaching.

• For Karnataka PU Board:

For CBSE:

Recommended textbook-NCERT

Teaching methodology for both Karnataka pu board and the cbse remains same as they
follow the ncert curriculum, only the final exam and the board you are associated with
is different, rest all are the same.

Even the questions that are framed in both of these boards are fully based on
ncert syllabus.

• Karnataka state board (PU Colleges), follow the CBSE syllabus for 11th and 12th
science. So, if you plan on taking the science stream, there is no difference
content wise. The only difference would be the teaching and learning
environment.

• As you are aware, Engineering Rank in Karnataka CET 2016 have been awarded
based on equal weight-age to marks in 12th Std and that in CET. like thousands
of students who have passed 12th std from CBSE board were not awarded any
grace marks. However, students from Karnataka State Board have been awarded
grace marks as can be made out from the submissions made by the Advocate
General before the High Court of Karnataka during the hearing on PIL filed by
Bhuvanjyothi Education Trust, DK district, Karnataka. This award of grace
marks to State Board students has adversely affected the CET rankings of
students who have completed the course under CBSE syllabus and is a grave
injustice to CBSE students who have studied so sincerely. In view of the
above, request Government of Karnataka to re-compute the CET Rank for
all the students based only on the marks scored in CET, with no weightage
to marks scored in PU-II (or Std-12).
