METHOD STATEMENT

1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK

The purpose of this load test is to evaluate the tensile capacity of test foundation
at the site. The tests will be performed in general accordance with the procedures
outlined in this method statement.

FSL’s scope of work will include performing uplift load test on a test foundation
constructed at the site by National Power Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) and
presenting a factual report of the test. FSL will perform the test in general accordance
with ASTM D-3689 “Standard Test Method for Deep Foundations under Static Axial
Tensile Loa Loads” Quick Load Test Method. A typical uplift load test set up is shown on
the attached sketch.

2.0 TEST LOADS

In accordance with the information provided to us by the client, the details of the
test loads are as follows:

Tower Type Maximum Test Load (200%), kN

TT 1,104

HA 5,120

3.0 TEST SET-UP

The uplift load test will be conducted at the site in general accordance with
procedures described in ASTM D-3689 “Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations
under Static Axial Tensile Load” Quick Load Test Method. The test foundation will be
constructed by NPCC. The test locations will be selected by the client and will be
prepared prior to the test set-up by the client to allow the test to be conducted safely.

The uplift load to the stub angle will be applied by two hydraulic jacks each of
500 tons capacity. The jacks will be acting on an I-beam type loading head which will be
welded to the stub angle of the foundation.

The reaction force will be provided by two main girders consisting of 12-m long
I-beams having 0.9-m inner web spacing. The main girders will be placed on leveling
bases placed on the ground.

Each leveling base consists of concrete blocks. The edge of the leveling base will
be kept at a distance of 4.5 m from the center of the foundation.

The applied load will be measured with an electronic load cell placed between the
hydraulic jacks and the loading head. The applied load will be displayed on a digital read-
out unit connected to each load cell.

4.0 INSTRUMENTATION

The test foundation will be instrumented with three dial gauges, having 70-mm to
100-mm travel and an accuracy of 0.01 mm. The dial gauges will be clamped to a steel
reference beam supported away from the zone of influence of foundation.

5.0 LOADING SEQUENCE

The foundation will be tested up to the maximum of 200% of the structure design
load. Load increments shall be 10% of the foundation design load up to maximum of 200
% of design load or deflection of 20-mm whichever occurs first. Test load shall be
decreased to zero in four equal decrements. Each load increment and decrement shall be
maintained for five (5) minutes. The load will be applied to the test foundations in
accordance with the percentage increase and time duration indicated in the sections
below.

6.0 LOAD TEST REPORT

Our report will include the test set up, instrumentation and loading sequence of
the test. The load test results will be presented as plots of applied load versus deflection
and applied load and deflection versus time curves, respectively.

7.0 EVALUTION CRITERIA

The acceptance criterion is defined in the Technical Specifications PTS-

14EO1154 page 30 of 61; sub-section L of item 1.19 by a specified limiting movement of
the foundation. As per Project Specification, the test shall be considered successful if,
1. At test load (150%), maximum deflection shall not exceed 9mm.
2. At working load (100%), maximum deflection shall not exceed 6mm.
3. After the removal of load, the residual deflection shall not exceed 3mm.
