Assignment #7

With Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both having strong personalities, the presidential
debate is a serious topic for college students. 10 students were asked if they were planning on
watching the presidential debate. College students’ opinion on politics is diverse. Some
students believe that their time can be better spent elsewhere. Taylor Wall said, “No, I am not. I
am not watching it because, honestly, I have a lot of exams to study for and I’m not really
supportive of either candidate at this point. I just feel like I should use my time more wisely by
not watching the debate.” Another student, Cody Williamson, would like to watch the debate,
but is unable to because he has class during that time.

Others, like Hichame Naciri, are not watching the debate because politics seem to never
change. Baltazar Nino is taking this presidential race very seriously and is planning on watching
the debate because he wants to see Hillary win. On the other hand, Minjie Jiang is watching the
debate because he believes that Trump will help remove all the illegals from the U.S. College
student Adella Kuster plans on watching the debate because she believes that Donald Trump
cannot be taken seriously and it will be humorous.

Jeffrey Wilson expresses his hopes for the debate when he answered by saying, “I do
plan on watching the debate tonight. I want to see Trump hit on Hillary’s emails and Benghazi.
Hopefully he does that.” Nicholas Miller displayed some mixed emotions about the election
when he said, “I don’t want to just because, honestly, both of them will end America.” When
questioned, Miller said, “One of them is extremely brash and then the other one lies to us all
the time.” Courtney Blair, another OU student stated, “I am because I am still very much on the
fence of who I should vote for and I am really curious to hear what is going to be talked about
tonight.” Harrison House similarly said he is watching “because this election is crazy and I am
still somewhat undecided. Trying to figure out who I want to vote for.” Many students are still
figuring out who they want to vote for and are viewing the debate as an opportunity to learn
more about the candidates.
