ROLE OF GEOLOGIST FOR A DRILLING

PROJECT

1. Provides Basic Well Data:

The geologist provides following well data:

 Well Name
 Type of well
 Surface co-ordinates
 Source point (point from where seismic charge is shooted)
 Objective formation (Primary & Secondary)
 Well depth

2. Provides Litho Logical Column With Anticipated Thickness:

This litho logical column provides the subsea and ground elevation depths of
the formation tops to be drilled along with the thickness and each formation
and geological composition.

3. Provides The Ground Elevation And Subsea Formation Depths:

4. Provides The Geological Information Of Each Rock To Be Drilled:

5. Provides The Formation Pore Pressure:

The geologist predicts the anticipated formation pressure that may be

encountered while drilling at deeper depths which tend to be pressured by
overburden of other formations & while drilling reservoir rocks.

The information helps the drilling engineer to decide what mud weight to be
used to drill safely (without lost circulation and blowout circulation) and
also helps in selecting the casing shoe if the pressures are critical.

6. Provides The Electrical Logging Program And Logging Cost Of Each

Hole To Be Drilled:

7. Provides The Mud Logging Program And Mud Log Daily Rental Cost:

8. Provides The Coring Program:

Geologist provides the depth interval of core to be cut in the required

information.
