DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Learners: Grade 8
Time Length: 60 minutes
Date: September 16, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. classify the major components in an ecosystem;
b. distinguish the function that comprises the ecosystem through a group activity;
and
c. value the significant role of abiotic and biotic factors in the ecosystem.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic:
Components of Ecosystem

Biological Science with Practical Application by Ester P. Gacelo, Ed.D., Ph.D.

NENTS
C. Instructional Materials:
 2 boxes with pictures for motivation
 standing board for discussion
 white board & marker
 scotch tape
D. Concept:
1. The two major components of ecosystem are abiotic and biotic factor.
2. Abiotic factor are non-living parts of the environment that affect
living organisms and the functioning of ecosystem. Biotic factor can be
described as any living component that affects another organism, or shapes
the ecosystem.
3. Abiotic and biotic factors are related to each other, if one of the component or
factor is removed or change it will affect the whole ecosystem.
E. Values Integration: gratitude, cooperation, and creativity
III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

A. Routinary Activity

a) Prayer
May I request everyone to please ( Cherry will stand and lead the prayer)
stand and Cherry kindly lead the prayer.

b) Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

c) Classroom Management
Before you take your seat, kindly ( The students will pick up all the trash and

properly.

d) Attendance
Is there anyone who is not with us There’s none Ma’am!
today?

e) Checking of assignment
Pass your assignment to the center Yes Ma’am!
and then pass it forward.

f) Review

What is abiotic factor? Abiotic factor is the non-living components

of ecosystem.

Give an example of abiotic factor? Example of abiotic factor are temperature,

air, water, soil, rocks, and minerals.

B. Motivation
Before we proceed to our next topic,
let’s have an activity entitled “ECO-BOX”.

I will divide the class into two groups.

Each group have at least one representatives
that will explain later.
Start counting at the back! ( The students will count 1,2)

I prepared two boxes that contains two

kinds of organisms and the materials you
will be use in this activity. You will identify
what are the things that are needed for them
to survive. The first group who will present
first will be consider as the winner.

You may now go to your respective (The students will go to their respective
groups and I will only give you 5 minutes to group and start their activity.)
finish this activity.

C. Lesson Proper

What is ecosystem? Ecosystem is a community of living and

non-living things that work together.

What are the two major components of The two major components of ecosystem
ecosystem? are abiotic and biotic factor.

Group Activity
The class will be divided into two
groups and each group will receive different
task inside the given envelope.

GROUP 1- Using Venn diagram, (The students do their activity)

differentiate Abiotic and Biotic factor.

GROUP 2- Make a song about the

importance of abiotic and biotic factor to
each other.

IV. GENERALIZATION

I have here an example of ecosystem

and you will identify which are abiotic and
biotic components and their connections.
V. APPLICATION

survival and production of nutrients.
a. Consumers c. Producers
b. Detrivores d. Carnivores
4. It includes all living components of ecosystem which depends on producers for their
nutrition.
