Streaming Wars: Netflix Vs Disney+

By Yukta Sinha
Netflix is gearing up as everybody wants to take its crown of the streaming King with myriad high profile
companies such as Disney, Apple and even AT&T entering the streaming arena in the next 6 to 12
months.

Disney has recently launched its Disney+ online streaming campaign and the company will be globally
launching the platform on November 12. The expansion is the first step in the company’s hopes to get
Disney+ in most global markets within two years.

Netflix, for now, has been suffering from some serious setbacks in the US market as the number of
subscribers in the US fell for the first time in 8 years. There are many reasons for this decline. For one,
“Netflix Original’s” content quality has been declining and especially during the April to June this year
Netflix did not have a lot of good content to catch viewer’s’ attention. The bigger problem, however,
could be Netflix’s aggressive price hike with an average jump of $2/month.

The good news for Netflix is that even though the number of US subscribers fell, its global paid customer
grew to nearly $152 million, which is greater than Amazon prime and HBO. Moreover, Netflix will soon
have a series of new content pouring in with Stranger Things and The Crown releasing their new seasons.
But, Disney entering that platform could be a total game-changer because it holds the rights to endless
classic movies that many hold dear, multiple television series such as Hannah Montana which hit a
feeling of nostalgia with the millennials, movie franchises which have a cult-like following including
Marvel, Star Wars and many more.

Who will finally sit as the King on this throne of streaming? Only time will tell.
