Assignment #1

Task:

Write one complete stand-alone paragraph on the following topic: Studying foreign
languages.

Make sure you create an adequate topic sentence (remember about the controlling idea),
provide support and conclude your paragraph.

Deadline: 23 October 2018

Delivery: In person, printed out and brought to class. Email accepted in case of absence
ONLY, sent till 2 pm on the day of the deadline.

Late submission: Past the deadline 1 point will be deducted on the same day, then 1 point per
every further day of delay.

Format: All assignments must adhere to the same format – Font Times New Roman, size 12,
line spacing 1,5, justified. All assignments should be SIGNED.
If sent in electronic form the document should be named: Last name_Assignment #.doc(x)

Tips: Remember, most topics are too broad to be discussed within one paragraph. When you
have a topic like “global warming” you could write a paragraph starting with “Global
warming will permanently change our day to day life in a number of ways.”

All supporting sentences must refer to the topic of your paragraph, otherwise you lose unity.
Transition signals and other cohesive devices may help your text be clear and logical.
