There is a story, about king Dashrath, the father of Ram, in Ramayan. One day he stood in front of a mirror. Lo! What
did he see? He noted a grey hair in his lock of hair on his forehead. That was sufficient for him. He took it as an
indication of warning for the approaching old age. He did not let the moment pass without much fuss about it. He at
once called his ministers and specially Guru Vashishtha the famous sage and seer of those days. After long
deliberations, he decided that he had to retire, and leave the throne to Ram, whom he wanted to be his successor. But

There are no rules as to how we ought to behave or ought not to behave in all matters. But in some matters,
there are rules that all have to obey. Take, for example, the rules of road. The purpose of these rules is to make the
roads safe to everybody. The roads in our cities and towns are getting busier these days. All kinds of vehicles, some
slow, some fast, fill the roads during the greater part of the day. If people disobey traffic rules accidents happen sooner
or later. There are rules for pedestrians as well as for vehicles, and every user of the road ought to know the rules.
Here is an important rule for pedestrians. They ought to keep to the footpath and leave the middle of the road for
vehicles. Where there is no footpath pedestrians must keep close to the edge of the road. If they do not obey this rule,
they will cause danger to themselves as well as to others. A driver may turn his vehicle suddenly to avoid a pedestrian
and in doing so, may knock down some other person; he may even lose foot path and knock down several people.
24. Why are the rules of the road to be followed?
