Organization Structure
GSTN follows very traditional and common organization structure which is called line
organization structure. In this control of command is managed from top to bottom. The
chairman of GSTN Mr. A B Panday holds top key position in the organization. The line
organization structure provides unity of the command and higher position people holds power
over the people hierarchically below them. People who are in the same line of structures work
as subordinate and are equal in terms of responsibility and control.
The CEO Prakash Kumar works under the chairman and above the EVP’s. Line structure helps
in clearly identifying each member role and roles and responsibilities of the one person do not
overlap with others. The advantage of the fixed responsibility and unity of command, the
decision making becomes faster which is inevitable of the organizations like GSTN where the
issues must be resolved faster to run the tax system properly.
The top authorities of the GSTN are well experienced, Dr. A B Panday has worked with Indian
Administrative Services over 33 years at various positions and CEO of GSTN ha managed
various portfolios like Human resources management, information technology, public finance
and other industrial development departments.
