‘Rails to Trail’
Merritt to Spences Bridge
The TNRD has asked for letters/
emails of support for it’s initiative to ob-
tain a 5 year renewable lease of the ‘KVR’
RRRW from The Rotary Bridge on the
Nicola to the edge of the LNIB Reserve.
The recently formed Thompson-Nicola
Regional Trail Society has this Trail; a
portal to the Trans Canada Trail at Brook-
mere/Brodie as it’s #1 priority.
This approx 2 km Trail will be a good
start to get the ball rolling; for a whole-
some recreation opportunity for seniors
and families — and for tourists to discov-
er — along the Coldwater River.
If you’d like to see this Trail final-
ly started; please take one minute and
email a positive note of support to Ag-
nese: asaat@tnrd.ca before Sept 30/19.
All four local TNRD Directors, and the
City of Merritt, support this initiative; so
please give them your support to get this
approved by the whole TNRD Board;

Literacy Merritt & Nicola Valley So-
ciety is looking for volunteer tutors for
the One to One Children’s Literacy Pro-
gram. Volunteers read with 3 students
for 30 minutes each at a local elementa-
ry school once a week. All you need is
a love of reading and a desire to make a
difference in the lives of children in your
community. Fall 2019 training sessions
will be held on Monday, September 30th.

clear flavorless spirit. Directions: Combine plums and sugar in a
large jar or crock and add vodka. Stir to dissolve sugar and tight-
ly cover. Store in a cool, dark place at least 3 months before using.
Plum wine should taste floral and almost Sherry-like, with notes
of caramel and raisins. Makes about 3¼ cups. Plum wine can be
made 1 year ahead. Chill.
