Warm-up – 7-8 mins

• Run through cones


• 5 push-ups
• Jump the cone - head the imaginary ball
• 6 mountain climbers (3 e.s.)
• Coach plays ball in for finish in corners –
striker pulls wide to create angle

Central Mid / Attack
Drill 1 – Passing width (12 mins)
• Blue team to pass ball from one end to other as
many times possible.
• Objective – Pass ball from Central Def to Centre Mid
/ Attack making good use of wings – 1 point for
succeeding.
• Red team to press with aggression to intercept ball
– 2 points for interception.
• Play for 90 second rounds – swap players after each.
• Keep track of highest score for defence and attack

Full • Want to see good movement of blues to be
back / available for the pass

the back and play forward – think about where 1st
touch takes ball
• Ball can be played direct to forward but we are
encouraging wing play
• Central def think of options: put foot on ball and
switch direction.
• Progress to 2 touch
• Adjust layout according to number that turn up but
try for 2 pitches if possible.
Central Def
Drill 2 – Crossing width (20 mins)
• Midfielders get ball out to wings
• Winger protected in channel, aims to cross to
players arriving in box
• One of the midfielders attacks the box to support
the striker
• Striker loses marker to meet cross
• Winger not receiving ball can leave channel to get
on back post
• If defenders or keeper get ball they play it out -
looking for width. 2 points for getting ball across
half-way under control
• Play for 10 mins and swap teams around.
• Keep track of highest score for defence and attack

Notes
• Midfielders can play ball to feet or into space
• Midfielder and spare winger attacking box aware of
striker position – finds own space.
• Winger body position to receive ball and play
forward – 1st touch.
• Winger looks up to cross to arriving player – think of
pace of ball
• Players in box – hit first time / take a touch / head?
• Play breaks down – track back quickly to recover
ball.
