Scotties are hot!

As Homecoming Week has swooshed by and here
we are at the main event — parade this afternoon
and big conference football game tonight — it
continues Saturday as the Scotties host Poplar
on the volleyball court in what is also a key
conference match-up. Please get out there and
cheer the Scotties on tonight and Saturday. The
Glasgow harriers will be in Poplar tomorrow with
the first race at 10:00. As Glasgow Athletic Director
predicted before the 2019 fall sports season began
— “The Scotties are going to be strong across the
board,” — his forecast is spot on so far!
Scotty hot streak continues
Certainly a team to keep an eye on as the season
is off and rolling is that of the Glasgow volleyball team.
Coach Somer Hoerster’s girls have not dropped a game
since the Choteau Invitational to open the season!
Their latest victims were the Class A Sidney Eagles,
clipping their wings 25-13, 25-22, 25-21.
As part of Homecoming weekend, the Scotties host
the Poplar Indians on Saturday. The Saskatoon Police
VFW District 5 Meeting here
VFW Post 3107 will host the District 5 meeting
Saturday September 21, registration from 10:00-12:00
followed by lunch.
The meeting will follow lunch. All VFW and
Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend.

Gittin-er good downstream
Federal officials say the amount of water flowing
down the lower Missouri River this year is approaching
the 2011 record and a third round of flooding is expected
this week after unusually heavy rains upstream.
Heavy rains dumped more than four times normal
in parts of Montana, Nebraska, North and South Dakota
last week. That triggered flood warnings and forced
the forecast for how much water will flow down the
Missouri River to jump to 58.8 million acre feet (17.92
million meters).
That will be second only to 2011’s 61 million acre
feet (18.59 million meters).
The Corps of Engineers doesn’t expect major
problems or threats to cities with the latest flooding —
provided the temporary repairs made to levees since
the spring hold up. But communities along the river are
bracing for problems.

Boland throws three TD passes last week, Cut Bank here tonight

Alec Boland had one of those games that all
quarterbacks love to have. The senior will be guiding
Glasgow tonight as the Scotties take on Cut Bank in a
Northern B battle. Tailgate Party is at 6:00 with kick-off at
7:00. The Scotties would love to see a lot of fans come out to
cheer them on to victory, so get out there, be proud and yell
loud.
The Wolves (0-2, 0-1) are coming off of a 28-7 loss
to defending state Class B champions Fairfield. Cut Bank,
which opened with a 12-6 loss to Bigfork, will try to knock
off eighth-ranked Glasgow (according to 406mtsports) in
the Scotties’ homecoming game.
The Scotties (2-0, 1-0) are coming off of a 32-6 non-
conference victory against Baker. Baker (1-1) opened the
season with a 34-13 victory over Wolf Point.
Boland went to the air for 177 yards and threw three
touchdown passes in the win. His target was Loden Idler.
Idler, a junior at Hinsdale, hauled in a 39-yard catch at
the 3:29 mark in the second quarter. He also caught a 45 46
yard passes that went on for a touchdown. He finished the
game with 130 yards receiving.
Another Hinsdale athlete, Cordell Younkin, scored the
first Glasgow touchdown in the first quarter, taking the ball
in from 25-yards out. His score at the 1:15 mark gave the
Scotties an 8-6 first quarter lead. Glasgow would go on to
dominate the game, scoring 32-unanswered points.
Glasgow was successful on all four extra point attempts
with Boland running in the first two-point conversion.
Junior Jesse Lee ran in one, Boland connected with Tel Aune
for another and Younkin punched in the final conversion.
Baker scored the first six points on an O’Donnel run
from five yards out. The two-point run failed.
The Spartans took over seven minutes off the clock
with that drive, and while Coach Patrick Barnett said it
didn’t have him in the panic mode, he admitted on KLTZ’s
Saturday morning Sports show that, yes, he was “nervous”.
Penalties have been the Scotties downfall in their first
two games. One penalty came in the second quarter after
the Scotties had gained a first down to the Spartans 20-yard
line. The penalty brought the ball back to the 39, however,
the Scotties would go in to score when Boland connected
with Idler for a 39-yard touchdown.
Younkin, who had 58-yards on the ground, also had a
score in the Scotties 38-6 conference victory over Conrad.
Boland ran in scores from 1 and 9 yards out, Idler also had a
score and Lee broke free for an 83-yard touchdown. Boland
also passed to Aune for a score.

What a crazy last few
days in the hills! It started
off Saturday morning calling
in a nice bull only to come
up short at 80 yards as the
wind took a bad turn on Joe
and I. Excited yet bummed,
we kept trucking. Sunday
morning we got into some
more elk right outside camp
yet, another bust.
Unfortunately Joe had

to “Fizz”. He was married to Lorena Trowbridge in 1972, of this
marriage he had two daughters, Tina White (John) of Williston, IT’S HOMECOMING WEEK
ND and Twila (Steve) Wild of Wasilla, AK.
