The succeeding slides are examples only, do not be
obsessed on copying them, you can do better
versions…
Research Design
• Recall the types of research, identify the type that best describes your
research topic and plan of investigation
• Choose/ mention something from the 4 General types (ex: Is it Basic?
Is it Mixed?, etc.,)
• Choose the best match from the “sub-category” of research (ex: is it a
Case Study?, is it Experimental?, etc.,)
• Or you may also mention one item from the “other” General Research
Approach (Exploratory, Descriptive or Causation)
• 1 paragraph

Locale of the Study and Participants

• 1 paragraph
• Settings and Participants:
• QT-describe the geographic location where the study will take place, cite
recognizable landmarks such as a nearby urban city. Describe the participant pool.
• QL-the decision regarding the number of participants in a study becomes a
reflection the study’s purpose. Ten to twelve participants may prove sufficient in
qualitative inquiries involving the understanding of experiences and perceptions of
participants.
• A successful purposeful sample in a phenomenological study could range from 1 to
40.
• Elaborate on the locale and participants you have introduced in the Scope
and Limitation
Procedure
Instrumentation
Describe your research TOOL in this paragraph and how you will utilize it.
Again, 1 paragraph for this.
• QL:
In a qualitative study, the instrument used to collect data may be created by the
researcher or based on an existing instrument. If the instrument is researcher
created, the process used to select the questions should be described and
justified.
If an existing instrument is used, the background of the instrument is
described including who originated it and what measures were used to validate
it.
Procedure
Developing the Tool/s. This segment is under Instrumentation and is type written in
this position. Describe how the researcher created his tool/s (ex: quiz, game,
experiment, testing). One tool, 1 paragraph, therefore, if you will have 3 tools = 3
paragraphs.
For Qualitative Instrument
1. Likert Scale-the scale should be described.
2. Interviews- an interview protocol should be developed that will result in a
consistent process of data collection across all interviews. Two types of questions
are found in an interview protocol: the primary research questions, which are not
asked of the participants, and the interview questions that are based on the
primary research questions and are asked of the participants.
3. Content Analysis
Procedure
Administration of Experiment/ Survey/Interview
You will describe how you are going to conduct the testing/ use the tool, in
paragraph/s, may have SUB-TOPICS. DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL PERFORM THE
TESTING/ TREATMENT/ INTERVIEW/ SURVEY. Number of paragraph will
depend on how you segmented your procedure.
QL: Fully describe how the data were collected. In a qualitative study, this is
the section where most of the appendices are itemized, starting with letters
of permission to conduct the study and letters of invitation to participate
with attached consent forms.

Developing the Tool

Developing the Tool

Thank you to our source of examples, you boys inspire me a lot =), continue the good work!
If you are using the quiz results from a test to be
given (or had been given) by your own subject
teachers:
The researcher will consider the teacher-made quiz on XXXXXX.
Describe the quiz coverage, number of items, mention the subject area
and department of the teacher (do not mention the name, I still need
to ask permission), when it was/ to be administered, for how long, etc.,
If you are using an existing tool (let say from the
internet), cite the source and explain how you
discovered the tool:
The researcher will adapt the memory game from a National
Geographic Channel series entitled BrainGame. This game will help
observe XXXXXXXXXXXX, etc., Describe the tool and how you
discovered it.
Data Gathering and Analysis
• 1st paragraph: EXPLAIN the SOURCE of your data and
HOW you will gather/ record/ organize it.
• 2nd paragraph: EXPLAIN HOW you will compute:
mathematical approach you will perform (from simple
arithmetic to statistics, what graph to use and why).
• QL: in qualitative studies, data collection and analysis is
accomplished by using any one of several data
collection and analysis tools available on the Internet
such as SurveyMonkey, search engines, etc. Internet
services are fast and accurate, and produce data that
can be quickly incorporated in Chapter 4.
