ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine the effects of

Graveyard Shift among the Nurses of the hospitals within

Kalibo, Aklan. The purpose of this study is to know the

negative and positive effects of Graveyard Shift among the

Nurses. This study was intended to know the profiles of the

selected respondents. The importance of this study is to have

knowledge about the health issues and benefits of the nurses

with the topic “Effects of Grave Yard Shifts among the

Nurses”. In order to satisfy the objectives of the research,

a qualitative research was held. The researchers found that

the effects of Graveyard Shift among the nurses in Kalibo,

Aklan are lack of sleep, exhaustion, lack of time to do other

intended activities during daytime because of fatigue from

shift, lots of paperwork during this shift, no order from

doctors because there is no rounds during this shift,

convenience in transacting from offices, and higher salary

because of differential pay. Nurses should know how to prepare

themselves before the shift. The researchers recommend to

nurses to have healthy diet and vitamins are best to avoid

illness. Enough sleep before and after shifts are best to

compensate the sleep time that they lost. They should manage

iv
their time to be able to maximize their time not only for

work, but also for other planned activities.
