Abstract
This study uses qualitative methods quantitative-descriptive approach which aims to find out how
large a percentage of the students of Class XI IPA SMAN 1 Gowa who experienced the
misconception on the material buffers as well as knowing the forms and causes of the occurrence of
misconceptions on students. The study uses a Three tier diagnostic test instrument for analyzing a
misconception that occurs in learners with techniques of data analysis using descriptive statistics.
The subject of this research is the 28th person learners class XI SMAN 1 Gowa. The object of this
research is the misconception on students and the contributing factor. Data collected through
observations, Three tier diagnostic test, and an interview. the percentage of students of Class XI
IPA 8 SMAN 1 Gowa who experienced the misconception on the matter are buffers of 47.02%, to
understand the concept of 7.74%, and for who don't understand the concept of acquired for 41.07%.
The results showed that the misconception that students going on the material component buffers as
well as form a misconception occurred on the material application buffers.
