Box With Latch and Hinge

Objective: The objective of the project is to draw the Assembly drawings and
Part drawings of the Box which can be opened and closed and is fixed with a Latch
and Hinge for the operation.

Working Methodology: The Latch can be assumed to be a cylindrical pair with

2 degrees of freedom (translation and rotation). The Hinge is made up of 2 parts
joined by an axle like thing and is assumed to be a revolute pair. A handle is
provided to open and close it. The box is similar to a closed room with a
door(with latch and hinged Joints).

Manufacturing Details: The box is made up of the following parts

a) 6 pieces of wood

b) 3 pieces of clamps

c) Latch and a T-shaped element

d) Handle

e) Hinges

Assembling: 5 of the wood pieces are joined together by means of screws to

form a open sided box and the sixth piece is assembled to the box by means of a
hinged joint and the parts of hinged joint are fixed with screws.

The free moving piece is assembled with the clamps and T shaped element at
respective positions with screws and the latch is arranged in between.

The handle is attached with screws/bolts and nuts to the free moving wooden
piece.

Parts:

The parts are shown in the CAD drawings attached below.

1. Clamps: These are used to support the latch and fixed using screws.

2. The T-shaped element is used for locking purpose and fixed using
screws.

3. Hinges: These are used for rotation of the wooden piece and are
fixed using screws to wooden pieces, the two parts are connected by
cylindrical structure (6).

4. Latch is put in between the Clamps.

5. Handle is used to pull and push the wooden piece and is fixed using
screws/bolts and nuts.
