STUDENT PERFORMANCE OJECTIVES

1. Students will be able to define what line dancing is.


2. Students will be to identify popular dances as line dances.
3. Students will be able to perform the basic steps of line dancing.
4. Students will be able to identify the counts of line dancing.

apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

DESCRIBE HOW THIS LESSON AND THESE OBJECTIVES FULFILL THE NATIONAL STANDARDS.

This lesson and these objectives fulfill the national standards because students will be performing
movement patterns needed to perform the various line dances. Students will also need to understand
movement concepts and patterns to perform the line dance steps in the correct order. Students will
hopefully enjoy the choices of music/dances and social interaction the dances provide.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
What are the safety concerns: A main safety concern is spacing between dancers.

Adaptations for students with special needs: Have a partner for the student(s) with special needs or partner
the entire class so everyone equal.

What about this class is unique or different: We are learning line dancing which is something we have not
gone in depth about.

TIME SEQUENCE OF LESSON ORGANIZATION FOCUS OF OBSERVATION

11:10: Entry routine: Have students sitting in an assigned area of the gym (bring them closer if too spread out). Introduce topic for the class
period.

Warm-up: Stretch if needed.

11:15: Lesson presentation


Set induction: Ask students what do they know about line dancing? Give them brief overview of the history.

11:20: Task 1: Teach Macarena: Tell class about “walls” and how line dancing is repeated steps, like the Macarena. There are 6 steps in the
Macarena. 1. Hands in front. 2. Chest 3. Behind your head 4. “Buckle the seat belt” 5. Buttock grab 6. Jump and turn to a new wall. Bring class in
together in two lines and have entire class perform without music. Then have the class perform with the music.

11:30: Task 2: Transition into “Cupid Shuffle”. Have class in two to three lines (depending on class size) and teach basic steps very slowly. Then
have class perform without music then add music and see if they make the relation to the “Cupid Shuffle” song.

11:40: Task 3: Ask class can anyone think of other popular line dances? Would you like to demonstrate?

11:45: Culminating activity: Wrap up by reviewing what we learned about line dancing and the basics to it by asking the class questions such as
what are important concepts for line dancing?

Closure: Applaud the class and tell them that next time they will be learning more about line dancing.

Reflections & self-assessment: Done by reviewing in the culminating activity.


Alternate plans (Plan B): Have students make their own line dances based on the basic steps they have learned or from previous knowledge.
