BANDURA : Modeling and Observational Learning

Modeling learning is a learning by imitating the other’s behaviour and vicarious experience like
learning from other’s successes or failure. Bandura felt that learning is more efficient if it done directly from a
model. Bandura calls this is no-trial learning because the student have to through a shaping proses but can
reproduce the correct response immediately. The observational learning involves four phrases: Attentional,
Retention, Reproduction, and motivational phrase.

1. Attentional
Paying attention to a model. In general, student paying attention to a model who are popular,
attractive, interesting and successful.
2. Retention
Once teacher has student’s attention, it is time to model the behaviour that they want student to
imitate and give a chance to practice.
3. Reproduction
Student try to match their behaviour to the models
4. Motivational
Praise or grades given for matching the model

VICARIOUS LEARNING
