Interdisciplinary Perspective
It analyze syntheses and harmonize links
between disciplines into a coordinated content
way. Looks at the same issues from multiple
disciplinary perspective, in a way that tries to
integrate or make holistic sense of the various
explanation of “the same” phenomena from
each disciplinary perspective. “An
interdisciplinary perspective might be more than
merely multidisciplinary because of an attempt
to think through the behaviors between various
disparate explanations.” (Griffin Univesity.2014)
Multidisciplinary Perspective
It derives on knowledge from different
in disciplines to stay within the boundaries. The
disciplines are united in such a way where each
discipline has its own identity.
In Approaches to Teaching Social
Sciences, Multidisciplinary approach utilizes the
view points from different disciplines for
understanding a case or issue, where each
discipline has its distinct identity. This approach
mostly involves solution of a problem separately
by different disciplines. In multidisciplinary
approach, the people from different disciplines
work together on a particular issue, but
approaching the issue differs from disciplines to
discipline depending upon the nature of
disciplines.

In Approaches to Teaching Social

Sciences, Interdisciplinary approach helps to
integrate knowledge from different disciplines
by using a real process of synthesis. This
approach tries to create a holistic knowledge by
integrating knowledge from different disciplines.
This approach facilitates to cross the traditional
boundary among academic disciplines or schools
of thoughts in order to create an integrated
knowledge.

New Theories and Practice in Social Studies in

Japan Theory of Academic Social Studies

This aspect was the move to extend the

educational remit of Social Studies to include not
only values, norms, rules and order, but also the
fields of moral education and ethics. This move
began with the textbooks entitled “Yo-no-naka”
(In the world) and “Rules”, edited by Fujiwara
and Miyadai (1998, 1999), These textbooks cover
fields such as law and psychology as well as the
Civics fields of economics, politics and sociology.
They are written from the viewpoint that it is not
enough simply to provide knowledge about
society, because this knowledge needs to be
closely linked to ‘life’ and how to live ‘in the
world;’ and that what students need to learn is
not how to relate to society and the world, but
how to actually ‘manage to live’ in it. New Social
Studies courses have been developed to resolve
the ambiguity in the relationship between Social
