Coaty sweater

Hey you all! I didn’t post anything for more than two
weeks because lately I didn’t have so much time for
my crochet projects. But here I am with another idea
for you: My “Coaty sweater”. I liked the idea to wear
a warm sweater instead of a coat so I wanted to
make one.

The stitch that I used is called “alpine stitch” and
you can find the pattern and a video tutorial clicking
the link below.

So, the pattern is for small size and is an oversized

sweater.

The materials I used:

700 grams of Katia Merino aran color medium blue.

You can used whatever Yarn you want with a 5-6
mm thickness

5.5 mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

scissors

Measuring tape
Let’s begin

For the back side

I wanted the back to be longer than the front and I

made the bottom of it smaller than the rest.

Like I said this is a smaller size. For bigger sizes just

add 10 more stitches.

Chain 60

1 row

1 single crochet in each stitch. Chain 2 and turn

2 row

1 double crochet in the second stitch, then 1 front

post triple crochet in the next one. Continue
alternating 1 double crochet, 1 front post triple
crochet all over the raw, chain 1 and turn.

3 row

2 single crochet in first stitch then 1 single crochet in

each stitch along until the last stitch. In the last
stitch 2 single crochet. This is how we make the
increase. Like I said I started with less stitches and
increase for several row just to add a shape to the
bottom of the back

Row 4

Pay attention to the stitches on the second row.

Where you have double crochet you will make a front
post triple crochet and where you have front post
triple crochet you will make a double crochet.

Row 5

Repeat row 3

6-15 repeat row 2 and 3

Row 16
Repeat row 4

We will not increase anymore. From this row we will

just keep it straight until the end of the back

Row 17

1 single crochet in each stitch

Rows 18-80 (or as many rows as you want depending

on how long you want your sweater to be; my back
side had 80 cm) repeat the rows 16 and 17.

Cut the yarn and you finished the back side

Front side

Chain the number of stitches that you have on the

back side at row 16. If you made your back side
straight, just chain the same number of stitches as
from the back side

Row 1
1 single crochet in each stitch

Row 2

*1 double crochet in the second stitch, 1 front post

triple crochet in the next one. Repeat from * to the
end of the row.

Row 4

Pay attention to the stitches on the second row.

Where you have double crochet you will make a front
post triple crochet and where you have front post
triple crochet you will make a double crochet.

Row 5

1 single crochet in each stitch

6-70 (or as many rows as you want) repeat

alternating row 4 and 5

Cut the yarn and you just finished the front side.
Sleeve

Chain 30 (plus 5 stitches for each larger size). If you

want the sleeve to be larger chain more stitches

Rows 1-6 the alpine stitch starting with first row in

single crochet

Row 7

Increase with 1 single crochet in each side

Row 8-10

Make the alpine stitch

Row 11

Increase with one single crochet on each side

Rows 12-14

Same as rows 8-10

Row 15

Increase with one single crochet on each side

Rows 16-18

Same as rows 8-10 and 12-14

Row 19

Increase with one single crochet on each side

Row 20-40 (or as many rows as you need depending

on how long you want your sleeve to be)

Cut the yarn and finish

Sleeve edge

Insert the yarn in first stitch on the bottom of the

sleeve.

Chain 6 stitches or as many stitches as you want

depending on how big you want your sleeve edge to
be.

Row 1

1 half double crochet in each chain stitches (6 or

more); 1 slip stitch trough the next 2 stitches (just to
join the edge from the sleeve) chain 1 and turn.

Row 2

1 half double crochet in each stitch (working only in

the back loops)

Row 3

Repeat row 2. At the end slip stitch twice to continue

joining your edge with the sleeve.

Repeat rows 2-3 until you finish the edge

For the other sleeve fallow the same pattern

Now that we have all the parts done, is time to join

them. Start with the back and front and sew 20
stitches on each part in shoulders area.

Then sew the sleeves. Point the middle if the sleeve

and put a pin trough it and the seam between back
and front. Then sew a half of the sleeve from back
and half from front.

Proceed the same with the other sleeve.

Now beginning with the bottom of the sleeve start

sewing until the bottom of the sweater.

Collar

Insert the yarn in one of the corners of the neck base

of the sweater. Chain as many stitches as you want
depending on how high you want your collar to be. I
chained 32.

Proceed the same as at the sleeve edges all over the

neck base. After you finish sew the collar and is done.

I like very much this coaty sweater because is so easy

to wear.
