JOHN PAGLINAWAN DR. RONALD M.

GALINDO
MET 604 - TRENDS AND INNOVATION IN ENGINEERING PROFESSOR

LISTS FIVE (5) MAIN ISSUES (ELECTRICAL) CEBU CITY IS FACING WHICH ARE
RELATED TO MY PROFESSION:
1. Power Theft - illegal tapping, system loss due to pilferage, meter tampering
2. Power Quality – fluctuations, momentary power interruptions, voltage sags or swells, harmonic distortions,
flickering lights
3. Insufficient numbers of street lighting installed in some streets of Cebu City.
4. Faulty electrical wiring which lead to fire.
5. Ungrounded electrical wiring system in most houses especially in a squatter areas.

HOW CAN I ADDRESS THE SAID ISSUES TO MY PROFESSION?

I would encourage everyone to report pilferage acts, use efficient and standard appliances, report wear and
tear of conductor insulation, report bumped poles by motor vehicles, report trees and vegetation that could fall
to the lines, report broken lines caused by strong and/or heavy rains, and report both power utility's equipment
failure and customer's equipment failure to the authority having jurisdiction. Initiate campaign in different
barangays through seminar on safety and standard practices in partnership with the local government unit and
the CTU system as part of its extension program. Since as of this moment I am engage in electrical design for
residential and commercial establishment, I would strongly implement that all electrical system within the
premises shall have appropriate equipment and system grounding. I want to conduct a seminar to those people
(electricians), for them to have basic or full knowledge about the importance of electrical safety as far as wiring
installation in residential houses is concern. For those areas which have insufficient lighting, I will report this to
the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and Department of Public Works and Highways
(DPWH).
