 SCRUBBING

The process of selectively removing Contamination solute

(impurities) from an extract by treatment with a new
immiscible phase
Raw materials:
Organic (extract) from the slurry extraction
Pure solution from Stripping
Nitric acid
Process:
The extract from slurry extraction that contain
minimum amount of hafnium compounds is sent for
scrubbing into the conventional mixer-settler here it is
scrubbed with the pure solution which is in aqueous solution
of pure zirconium nitrate obtained from the stripping
process.The scrubbing operation is a counter current
operation.Both the phase are mixed in a mixer, which
essentially consists of an agitator, side baffles and two inlets
for organic and aqueous phases.
