Late last week, the City relaxed its
watering restrictions. Residents are now
permitted to water up to 3 days per
week, based on civic address. Odd num-
bered houses are permitted to water on
Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, and even
numbered homes permitted to water on
Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
Watering times are from 6-8am &
7-10pm. Those with automatic sprinkler
systems are encouraged to water be-
tween midnight & 4am.
Washing cars and hand watering us-
ing a controlled flow nozzle is permitted
at any time.
Barring a significant change in the
weather pattern, all watering restrictions
will be removed on September 30, in ac-
cordance with the City’s Outdoor Water-
ing Conservation policy.
“I am thrilled to see rain”, said Mayor
Linda Brown, “Though there was plenty
of water in our aquifers, it was extremely
concerning to see such limited flow in the
Coldwater River. Whether it be flood or
drought, water management will contin-
ue to be a priority for this Council”.
Public info meeting: Effectiveness of
watering restrictions
Through this process, the City re-
ceived many questions about the effec-
tiveness of watering restrictions, the
health of our aquifers, and the actions
that were being taken by water users out-
side the City of Merritt.
We understand the impetus for these
questions and have arranged a meeting
on October 1, 6pm at City Hall where
Council will be discussing these ques-
tions and other groundwater matters
with experts from the Fraser Basin Coun-
cil, & Min. of Forests, Lands, Nat. Re-
source Operations, & Rural Devlt.

Literacy Merritt & Nicola Valley So-
ciety is looking for volunteer tutors for
the One to One Children’s Literacy Pro-
gram. Volunteers read with 3 students

a love of reading and a desire to make a
difference in the lives of children in your
