TOUR OF SASARAM,BODHGAYA, RAJGIR & NALANDA

PREFACE
I, Rahul Kumar Singh B.A.(Hons.) VIth semester feeling graceful due to the
participation in educational tour organized by Department of History. We are really very
obliged of our Head of Department Dr. Vinod Kumar Chowdhary Sir for his effort to take
such a tour out of state i.e. to Sasaram, Bodhgaya, Rajgir, & Nalanda. It was the first tour of
History Department moving out of the state. Vinod Sir has organised a successful tour and
we are very thankful to him. We are also very thankfull to our all teachers of History
Department who have given full support to the tour and without their support it could not
to be a successful tour. The tour was full of knowledge and enjoyment. We have enjoyed it
too much.

The guardianship of our teachers Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh sir, Dr. S.N. Pathak sir,
Dr. Shiv Narayan sir, Dr. Richa Rani mam. It was a great moment of my life. Neither I have
enjoyed such like this in my life so far. Tour contained the students of M.A. (History) both
previous and final and the students of B.A.(Hons.) VIth semester and the teachers of History
Department. Total persons who joined the tour are 42 and all of us were cooperating to each
other.

We departed from Varanasi on 19th of March 2016 at 7:30 AM as it was scheduled


by a full air conditioned luxury bus. We started our journey with the voice of Har Har
Mahadev from our college and from here our two days tour started.

SASARAM
We reached Sasaram on 19th March 2016 at 11:00 AM and visited the Mousoleum of Sher
Shah Suri. There were too many graves including his family members in the Mousoleum. We
saw that the architect used in the Tomb was Indian and it was very beautiful place. It is
situated in between a pond surrounding all way from water. We got several knowledge about
Suri dynasty from our teachers. We have seen it in books only but in the tour we come to
know it practically.

BODHGAYA
We reached Bodhgaya on 19th March 2016 at 4:00 PM. It is the place Gautam Buddha got
knowledge of Dhamma. It is the World Heritage site. The Mahabodhi Temple contains a
temple including a pond name Muchlind Sarovar in between which Gautam Budhha spent
several weeks sitting at a place and Naagraj Muchlind protected him from the bad weather
condition. It was very beautiful and watchable place in Gaya district. It is the world famous
site. People from China, Japan, Srilanka, Korea etc. comes regularly to see the Temple. After
the Temple visit we taken dinner in a Restaurant and it was a proper diet according to our
own choice and after that we departed for Rajgir.

RAJGIR
We reached Rajgir at 11:00 PM late night and sheltered at a Hotel. The Hotel was pre booked
and the hospitality was very good, free wifi facility was also available which is the basic need
of youth at present so it make them glad.

At morning we left the Hotel and at first we visited Bimbisar’s Jail were he was
captured by his own son.

VENUVANA

Venuvana and the Tank namely ‘Karandak Nivap’ have been described in the Buddhist texts
as one of the most sacred spots of Rajgriha. Bimbisara, the king of Magadha had donated
the Venuvana to Buddha. Chinese pilgrims Fa-Hian and Hiuen Tsiang have described
prominently the Karandak tank, Stupas, and Venuvana vitaras at this place.

NALANDA
At last of our tour we visited world famous Remains of Nalanda University. It was world
famous centre of education of its time. It was built up by Kumargupt in 6th Century B.C. The
Decline of this great institution started in later Pala period but the final blow came in around
1200 A.D. by the invasion of Bakhtiyar Khilji.

After this visit we departed for Varanasi and reached Varanasi on 21 st March 2016 at 2:00
A.M.
