Design Of One Way Slabs :-

Step 1 Preliminary Data

LY 3.962 M
LX 1.295 M
LY/LX 3.059459
ONE WAY SLAB
Grade of Concrete M 20
Grade of Steel Fe 500
Assuming overall Thickness of Slab as D 115 mm
Clear cover= 15 mm
Diameter of bar 8 mm (assumed)
Therefore Effective depth of slab, d 96 mm

Step 2 Load Calculations

(i) Self Weight of slab 2.875 KN/M2 (Where 25KN/M3 is unit weight of RCC)
(ii) Floor Finishes 1 KN/M2
(iii) Total Dead Load 3.875 KN/M2
(iv) Live Load 2 KN/M2 (According to IS:875 Part 2)
Total Load 5.875 KN/M 2

Factored Load W 8.8125 KN/M2

Step 3 Bending Moment Calculations

For LY/LX=3.05
Bending Moment is given by:- M=Wl2/12
1.231565 KN-m

Step 4 Check for Depth

d=√M/R*b
where M is maximum of Mxc , Mxm , Myc &Mym
M= 1231565 M in N-mm
R= 2.67 For M20 & Fe500
b= 1000 mm
d 21.47697 mm
Hence Safe

Step 5 Area of Steel Reinforcement

Ast= 0.5xfck/fy(1-√1-4.6xM/fckxbd2)xbxd
Ast= 29.73653 mm2
Min. Ast=0.12% of gross c/s area Astmin= 0.12%*b*D
Astmin= 138 mm2 Ast Req= 138 mm2
Step 6 Calculation of Spacing
Spacing S= Aφ/Ast x 1000
Assuming 8 mm dia bars, Aφ= 50.24 mm2
Therefore S= 364.058 mm
Max spacing should not be greater than 3d or 300mm which ever is less.
3d= 288 mm or 300mm
Hence provide 8mm dia at 285 c/c.
Distribution Reinforcement= Ast Min.= 138 mm2
Spacing of 8 mm dia bars = 364.058 mm
Hence provide 8mm φ @ 285 mm c/c at distribution steel.

Step 7 Check for Deflection

lx/α*d <=32
α is the modification factor obtained from Fig. 4 of IS 456-2000 Pg. No. 38
Fs= 0.58*fy*Ast required/ Astprovided
Ast prov= Aφ/S provided x 1000
Ast prov= 176.2807 mm2
fs= 227.0243 N/mm2 say 240 N/mm2
Percentage of reinforcement provided Pt= Ast prov/bxd *100
0.183626 say 0.2
For fs= 240 N/mm2 & Pt= 0.2
α= 1.7
Therefore, Lx/αxd 7.935049 < 32
