BUSINESS INTRODUCTIONS

Introductions are quite casual these days, largely because

everything about American life is more relaxed. However (1)
there are still a few general rules for making
introductions.

When introducing two equals to each other, it doesn´t

matter who is presented first. Say : (2) Bill bailey, this
is William Smith, or “ william Smith, I would like you to
meet bill bailey.”

However, if you are introducing your administrative

assistant to a superior, you say the supersior´s ame first:
“ Ms. Jones, I would like to introduce Jeff Poter, my
administrative assistant.”

If you are introducing a new employee to fellow workers, it

is nice (3) To add a statement about the new person: “ John
Weber, I would like you to meet sidney smith, who will be
working with you in accounting. Sidney comes from the new
york branch.”

When you are seated and someone comes up to introduce

himself or herself, stand up. This way you show the person
you are greeting that (4) you are giving him or her your
full attention.

It is very important to make eye contact. If you look

people in the eye, then people will think you are confident

and (5) a good listener, and people will probably listen to

you when you speak.

When you smile, it tells others that you accept them. A

smile is worth a thousand words – maybe even more.
Always say your name. if you´re meeting someone for the
first time, (6) Intruduce yourself using your first and
last name, if you have met the person before but think
that he or she may not remember your name, introduce
yourself again to avoid embarrassing him or her.
2. According to the text, why should you:

a) Stand up when people are coming to intrudice

themselves to you?
Because this way you show the person you are greeting that
you are giving him or her your full attention.

b) Smile when you introduce yourself?

Because When you smile, it tells others that you accept
them. A smile is worth a thousand words – maybe even more.

c) Look people in the eye?

Because If you look people in the eye, then people will
think you are confident and a good listener, and people
will probably listen to you when you speak.

d) Introduce yourself to someone you have already met?

Because if you have met the person before but think that
he or she may not remember your name, introduce yourself
again to avoid embarrassing him or her.
