Thrissur commonly called as ‘the pooram of all poorams’ is celebrated every year in Medam ( April) month, as per Malayalam calendar, at Vada- kkumnathan temple. Aanayoottu is the festival held in Vadakkumnathan Temple located in Thrissur. The Aanayoottu (feeding of elephants)'s a festival falls on the first day of the month of Karkkidakam (Jul). “Bharani” means the second asterism of the lunar month and considered a very auspicious day of the festival. The significance of this festival is that it is the birth- place of Bhadrakali, who was born from the third eye of Samhara Rudra. The Machattu Mamangam in Kerala is an annual extravaganza which is celebrated with full fervor and is at- tended by thousands from Kerala.
