Accounting Intern Job Description


The Position:
This intern position is within the Accounting and Audit Department of the firm. The
Accounting Intern will directly assist the Accounting Team and Audit Team with various
projects and month end close responsibilities. This includes: ensuring financial statements are
completed timely and accurately in compliance with GAAP, and that the accounting records
contain the information necessary to meet the reporting requirements to the client’s
management, for tax compliance, and to the various government regulatory agencies.
The internship program will provide the student with relevant skills in a variety of accounting
functions via on-the-job training. This internship is designed to be both educational and
practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired
in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional
setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that an Accounting or Audit
Practitioner can play in a actual work setting and be better prepared to work in the arena of
accounting.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:


- Assist with gathering back-up support and preparation of the Journal Entries.
- Assist with preparing and validating month end close schedules and analysis.
- Assist in performing account reconciliations.
- Assist in various system related projects, including but not limited to performing
testing and documentation.
- Reconciling general ledger accounts
- Roll forward analysis of balance sheet accounts.
- Monthly financial statement review and analysis.
- Assist with general accounting month-end closing procedures.
- Provide clerical support for Sales Tax reporting.
- Complete special projects as needed and other duties assigned.

Functional and Technical Skills:


- Good understanding of GAAP.
- Strong PC skills utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A self-starter with a strong desire to learn.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
