3D HUMAN BODY SYSTEM MODEL PROJECT

St. Augustine – Skeletal, Muscular, & Integumentary Systems

St. Ignatius – Digestive & Respiratory Systems
St. Thomas – Circulatory & Nervous Systems

OBJECTIVE
- To prepare a 3D model to educate your other classmates and schoolmates about
one of the body systems that makes up the human body.
INSRUCTIONS AND MECHANICS
- Students composed of 5 teams will create a 3D model of the human body outline
and some organs
- Students will plan, create, and exhibit 3D model of the human body system during
Science Fair.
- Each organ should be labelled and include an explanation of its function of an
organ.
- All materials in creating a model should be recyclable.
- Look for the body system checklist for some guidelines after creating a model.

BODY SYSTEM CHECKLIST
Below is listed the items you must include in your presentation based on which system
you have been assigned.
Muscular System (Biceps and Triceps)
- Major functions of muscular system.
- Describe the function and locations of each type of muscle – skeletal muscle,
smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle.
- Describe how muscles work in pairs to make parts of the body move.
- Explain how your body system works with other systems in the body. At least 2
examples.
- Describe two diseases associated with muscular system.
- Give three ways on taking care of the muscles.
- Give three amazing facts about muscular system with sources.
Skeletal System
- Major functions of skeletal system.
- For bone structure: You will build one that includes the major parts – bones,
ligaments, tendon, and cartilage – and list the function(s) of each.
- For axial skeleton: You will build the following parts: skull, thoracic cage (rib
cage), and vertebral column (spine) - and list the function(s) of each.
- For appendicular skeleton: You will build the following parts: girdles (shoulder –
[clavicle & scapula] and pelvis), arms (consists of humerus, radius, & ulna),
hands (carpals & metacarpals), legs (femur, patella, tibia & fibula), and feet
(tarsals & metatarsals) - and list the function(s) of each.
- Explain how your body system works with other systems in the body. At least 2
examples.
- Describe two diseases associated with skeletal system.
- Give three ways on taking care of the bones.
- Give three amazing facts about skeletal system with sources.
Integumentary System
- Major functions of integumentary system.
- Model that includes the major parts – skin consists of epidermis, dermis, hair
follicles, & subcutaneous fatty tissue - and list the function(s) of each.
- Explain how your body system works with other systems in the body. At least 2
examples.
- Describe two diseases associated with integumentary system.
- Give three ways on taking care of the skin.
- Give three amazing facts about integumentary system with sources.
BODY SYSTEM CHECKLIST

you have been assigned.
Digestive System
- Major functions of digestive system.
- Model that includes the major parts – upper digestive tract consists of mouth,
esophagus, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, & stomach; and lower digestive
tract: colon, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus, and appendix - and
list the function(s) of each.
- Describe the path food travels throughout the digestive system.
- Explain how your body system works with other systems in the body. At least 2
examples.
- Describe two diseases associated with digestive system.
- Give three ways on taking care of the digestive organs.
- Give three amazing facts about digestive system with sources.
Respiratory System
- Major functions of respiratory system.
- Model that includes the major parts – upper respiratory tract consists of nasal
cavity (including nose), pharynx, larynx/vocal cords & epiglottis; and lower
respiratory tract: trachea, bronchioles, alveoli, lungs, & diaphragm - and list the
function(s) of each.
- For lung-chest model, see pages 81-82 on how to create a model.
