INTRODUCTION
Objectives:

 To find the impact of various factors such as age, income, occupation etc. on the selection of the
telecom network.
 To study the spending pattern of people on the telecom services.
 To survey about the best telecom service provider in Andhra Pradesh based on economy and
network service.

Scope:

 The scope of the survey is limited to the telecom service providers in Andhra Pradesh only.
 It covers the widely used service providers across the state of AP.

Methodology:

 Primary data has been used for the study. The data has been collected using questionnaires.
 Interpretations have been made based on the various quantitative techniques applied to the collected
data.

Limitations:

 The service providers were too many so we have limited our study to only the major ones.
 Since the population was too high and the sample taken was low the conclusion cannot be
generalized.
COMPANY/SECTOR
The telecom industry in India is fast growing. In the recent past there have been various service
providers which offer the services in India. Due to stiff competition within these service providers each one has
something unique to offer which makes it the best in that particular field. Hence it is not easy to judge which
service provider would be the best to chose.
India's 21.59 million-line telephone network is the largest in Asia, 3rd largest among emerging
economies (after China and Republic of Korea) and the 12th largest in the world. India's telecom network
comprises of 27,753 telephone exchanges, with a total equipped capacity of 272.17 Lakh lines and 226.3 Lakh
working telephones. The Long Distance Transmission Network has nearly 1, 70,000 route kilometers of
terrestrial Microwave Radio Relay & Co-axial cables and about 171,000 route kilometers of Optical
Fiber Cables. Fully automatic International Subscriber Dialing (ISD) service is available to almost all the
countries. The total number of stations connected to National Subscriber Dialing (NSD) is over 18,000 and this
is increasing fast. Yet the present tele-density is very low at about 2.2 per hundred persons, offering a vast scope
for growth. In the field of International communications, tremendous progress was made by the use of
Satellite Communication and submarine links. It is therefore not surprising that India has one of the fastest
growing telecommunication systems in the world with system size (total connections) growing at an average of
more than 20 percent over the last 4 years.

Our survey includes the study of the following service providers:

 Airtel
 Aircel
 Vodafone
 Idea
 Reliance
 Tata Indicom
 Docomo
 Virgin

 BSNL

GLOSSARY
 Statistics- is the science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing and interpreting
numerical data to assist in making more effective decisions.
 Sampling - statistical practice concerned with selection of individual observations
intended to yield some knowledge about a population of concern.
 Population- refers not only to people but to all the items that have been chosen for
study.
 Sample- describes a portion chosen from the population.
 Hypothesis testing- process of making a decision on whether to accept or reject an
assumption about the population parameter based on the basis of sample information
at a given level of significance.
 Chi-square statistic- is used to measure data with a nominal scale.
 A contingency table- is used to investigate whether two traits or characteristics are
related. Each observation is classified according to two criteria. We use the usual
hypothesis testing procedure.
