THEORY MOVIE SCENE
LILY-It was mirrored in the movie when
Lily eats the moth while drawing stick
figures.She also tries to eat the transparent
colored ball in the movie as well as tries to
chew the tissue including the ears of the
rabbit stuff toy.

Trust vs. Mistrust
LILY- It was mirrored in the movie where
Annabelle finds out that Lily is missing
inside the house. She searched for her and
found her outside the house below near the
trees. She then find out that Lily escaped
from the window, she secured the window
and nailed it.She instructed the two siblings
that Windows are bad and if we are going
to go out what do we gonna do?Victoria
responded “Use the stairs” while Lily
responded “Take good care”

DISCUSSION
In this part of the movie Lily is
showing the attitude of an infant
where the center of pleasure is in
the mouth.She is still in the oral
psychosexual stage since she was 1
year old when they were left inside
the old cabin.Since then she hasn’t
been raised properly that is why
she has animalistic attitude
tendencies.
As stated”Whether children come
to trust or mistrust themselves and
other people depends on their early
experiences.In the movie it was
situated that even though Anabelle
wasn’t their real mother they
trusted her.During this stage of
both siblings after Anabelle
instructed the two siblings, they
agree to obey her instructions for
their safety.The two siblings
learned to cooperate and follow.
 Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
LILY- Lily and Victoria was brought to
their new home. Lily who is barefoot
cannot walk upright because their muscle
growth was clearly compromised by the
situation they had experienced inside the
old cabin. It was also observed by Dr.
Dreyfuss in the clinic (by observing how
they behave, sleep,)
Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
LILY- As contrast to Victoria, Lily had
difficulty adapting to modern living. She
sleeps under the bed, fear human contact,
unable to walk upright, eats separately
barehands on the floor, eats anything and
recognize only “Mama” as her mother even
after they were adopted by her own uncle.

Initiative vs. Guilt
It was also shown in the movie wherein
when the two girls are put in a welfare
clinic under the psychiatric care of Dr.
Gerald Dreyfuss.The girls are initially
hostile to Luke, as Luke approaches them,
the two siblings hide under the bed but
Victoria recognizes him after he gives her a
pair of glasses and she can see him
properly.
Lily shows responses/attitude that
of not a normal 6 yr. Old child
because normally at this age,
normal child can already walk right
and no longer crawl of hop.
Due to the isolation they had
experienced, Lily’s development
was compromised which resulted
to unable to walk properly, fear
human contact, unable to sleep
properly as normal children do,
and unable to understand the fact
that “Mama” wasn’t their real
mother.
In the movie at first the two were
hostile to Luke but after Luke has
given Victoria a pair of glasses,
Victoria recognizes him as she
called her “Daddy” (although he is
not actually her father but her
uncle) she then hugged him
tightly.This shows that after clearly
seeing his uncle she began to trust
him as she hugged him.
 Industry vs. Inferiority
VICTORIA - They were already placed
under the psychological clinic of Dr.
Dreyfuss, Victoria was given a pair of
eyeglasses by her uncle and hesitant at first,
he then recognized that it was an eyeglass
that she used to wear when she was still a
little child.

Victoria- Victoria easily adapt to modern
living.She can walk right, she can sleep
comfortably in bed although at first she eat
barehands (eating the pasta using both
hands).They survived in the forest eating
only cherries as what the two found out
inside the cabin with evidence of bulk of
cherry pits.
Pre-Operational Stage
Victoria-During the 1st to 4th= session of
Victoria with Dr. Dreyfuss, she was
unresponsive but during the 5th session she
was allready responsive telling the story of
Mama as she recalls her story and tell the
story in full details and that Mama showed
that story to her through a dream.
Victoria recognized that it was an
eyeglass because she used to wear
one when she was still a little
child.She remembered and already
has the knowledge about that
object since she has past
experiences including the
recognizing their dog.
In this scene Victoria eating the
pasta with both hands and without
using utensils, it is because Victoria
is still adapting.Victoria
understands how things work and
how to live as a normal person
different from what they both
experienced in the old cabin for 5
yrs. (surviving only by eating
cherries given to them by ‘’Mama’’
the ghost.
In this stage Victoria was already 8
years old and knowing all the
possible outcomes that Mama may
incur, she was at first hesitant to
tell Dr. Dreyfuss the story about
Mama because she knows that
Mama is watching over them and
their conversation. After several
questioning she then said that
Mama is watching and knowing the
fact that Mama might hurt Dr.
Dreyfuss and the two siblings if
she told him everything.
 Pre-Operational Stage
LILY-Recognizing only “Mama” as her
mother without accepting the fact that she
is not their real mother. They come to
know her by taking care or looking after
them for 5 yrs that they were in the old
cabin, the one who gives them cherries in
THEORY OF order to survive, playing with them even
COGNITIVE though they were already in their new home
DEVELOPMENT and talking with her as if ‘’Mama’’ was
talking to them.This was also observed by
Dr. Dreyfuss in his clinic as if the two were
talking with someone.
Pre-Conventional Stage
It was mirrored in the movie where
Annabelle finds out that Lily is missing

perceptions. They perceived
“Mama” as their mother who
looked after them for 5 years.
In the movie it was situated that
even though Anabelle wasn’t their
real mother they trusted
her.During this stage of both
siblings after Anabelle instructed
the two siblings, they agree to obey

Victoria- Victoria a 8 year old child knows
that “Mama in which they refer to as their
protector and mother knows already the
fact that she is not real human. When Lily
wakes Victoria to come with her to Mama
she responded “No,Victoria stay” because
she knows the fact already and began to get
close to Anabelle. Victoria also told
Anabelle after knowing the existence of a
supernatural being that “mama” gets
MORAL jealous whenever they get close to
DEVELOPMENT Anabelle.

Five years later, a rescue party, sponsored
by Jeffrey's identical twin brother Lucas,
finds Victoria and Lily alive and well but in
a feral state after a few years of seclusion
and isolation-filthy, vicious, and animalistic
in an abandoned cabin.The girls are put in a
welfare clinic under the psychiatric care of
Dr. Gerald Dreyfuss. They make reference
to "Mama," a maternal protector figure,
whose arrival is often heralded by black

In the concrete- operational stage,
a child is capable already of
knowing facts and is capable of
employing all of the perceptual
features of an experience in order
to derive logical solutions.Victoria
knows the fact that “Mama” was
not their real mother and also
knows that Mama is different and
might hurt them and Anabelle if
the two of them get closer to
Anabelle.
After being found the two take
care of Victoria and Lily. Victoria
acclimates quickly to domestic life
while Lily retains much of her
feralness (language regression,
growling, and crawling on the
floor), not being used to being
around people.

LILY-This was mirrored when Anabelle
found Lily outside the house chilling and
brought her inside the house resisting her
not to touch her, she tries to escape from
Anabelle but she couldn’t because Anabelle
is much stronger than her. Anabelle warms
her by blowing Lily’s hand, when Lily look
what she did, she imitates her by blowing
her other hand.

hand will warm her (given the too
cold temperaure outside) she
learned and imitates the behavior
of Anabelle.
After being found the two take
care of Victoria and Lily. Victoria
acclimates quickly to domestic life
while Lily retains much of her
feralness (language regression,
growling, and crawling on the
floor), not being used to being
around people.
