Our culture is a big reflection of our great and complex history. It is influenced by most
of the people we have interacted with. A blend of the Malayo-Polynesian and Hispanic
culture with the influence from Chinese, Indians Arabs, and other Asian cultures really
contribute to the customs and traditions of the Filipinos.
FILIPINO TRADITIONS
Marriage and Wedding Customs
A sacred marriage
In the country, marriage is a sacred union of man and women after a period of courtship
and engagement. It is a sacrament between two people who love each others. For many
Filipinos, the eternal quality of dedication to God pervades a truly sacred marriage.
A sacred marriage is a covenant between two who love each other in God and with God,
whose joining becomes an expression of the desire of each to love and serve God
together.
Kamayan
FIlipinos love to eat and when the food is especially sumptuous, they eat kamayan-style.
From the Filipino word kamay or hand, kamayan is the traditional way of dining using
one’s bare hands.
Fiesta Celebrations
If there’s a celebration you wouldn’t wanna miss out on while you’re in the Philippines, it
would be the colorful fiestas happening all-year round. Celebrating fiesta is another
influence of the Spanish colonizers and was mainly done to honor the patron saints.
FILIPINO CULTURE
Filipinos are very resilient
In times of calamities and catastrophes, Filipinos always manage to rise
above the challenge. Instead of wallowing, they manage to pick themselves
up and smile.
