Subject: Registration for Participation in the Shaukat Khanum National Science and Engineering Fair 2019

Dear Principal,

We would like to take this opportunity to invite students of your institution to participate in the annual ISEF
affiliated Shaukat Khanum National Science and Engineering Fair 2019. The fair that is being organized as a part of
the activities of Shaukat Khanum Tigers’ Club aims to provide young scientists of Pakistan a platform to showcase
their innovative thoughts and ideas. It is the only fair in Pakistan affiliated with the International Science and
Engineering Fair, USA which will be held at Anaheim, California, USA in May, 2020.

The students of grades 8 to 12 are eligible to participate in the up-coming Shaukat Khanum National Science and
Engineering Fair 2019. Students can participate in individual capacity or as a team of two students. Students can
register in each subject category, i.e. Chemistry, Translational Medical Science, Environmental Sciences, Engineering
Mechanics, Physics: Energy, Systems Software and Embedded Systems. Kindly send the attached duly filled
registration pro-forma along with the required research plan at the following address, we recommend you to
register online at https://an-e-tech.com/main/registration/ for early and swift processing for an early response and
confirmation of participation before September 20, 2019. All the submissions will be reviewed and qualifying
students / projects will be informed as soon as possible via email. Thereafter, our annual cycle of regional fairs
would be starting in October and November, 2019.

Participation Guidelines
 Registration forms along with Science Fair guidelines are given / sent to institutions.
 Once registration form is received, fill in the details and send it to regional office with school seal and
principal’ signature to the science fair coordinator. You will only be registered when the Registration Form
hard copy with project information is received by the Fair’ Regional office at Islamabad.
 Participants are required to register at least two months before the fair, register as soon as possible.
 Participating student or team must submit a Research Plan which summarizes the research work done by
student (s) to ISEF Coordinator, along with the Registration Form (research plan guidelines attached).
 The Research Plan should clearly explain the purpose of the proposed research.
 Originality is a must. Plagiarism is strictly checked and not allowed.
 Repetition of previous year’ project is not allowed and such projects will be disqualified.
 Each student may enter only one project covering research done during a maximum of 12 continuous
months not more than that. If a student registers more than one project all his submissions will be
disqualified.
 Students of 8th to 12th grade can participate individually or as a team, a team can comprise of 2 members.
 12 grade students will only be allowed if the parent submits a hundred rupee stamp undertaking along with
his CNIC copy at the time of registration agreeing that the student in year 12 may have to forfeit sitting in
F.Sc / F.A final board exams, if selected for Intel ISEF 2020.
 The participant will be contacted by the relevant regional coordinator via email to inform whether the
submitted project research plan has been accepted / approved by the committee of subject specialists.
 Please note that the judges will have the final say and will hold all authority. Qualifying projects for the
second and third round will again be scrutinized by the National Scientific Review Committee.
 Only qualifying projects / students will be eligible to proceed to the next round.
 It is recommended to register online at https://an-e-tech.com/main/registration/ for early processing.
 On the day of the fair student (s) will be required to present their Project on the required three fold exhibit /
poster / board format (dimensions given below), along with all the required supplementary material, the
Abstract, Research Paper, and the Data Log Book to the Scientific Review Committee and the Evaluation
Committee, marks are allocated for each section.
 On the day of the fair students should bring a project display as per guidelines given below.
Maximum Size of Project Depth (front to back side panels): 18 inches (1.5 feet)
Width (side to side center panel): 36 inches (3 feet) and Height (placed on the table): 48 inches (4 feet)

that the mechanism that supports the
poster should conform to the maximum
size limitations stated above.
 All project materials and support
mechanisms must fit within the project
dimensions. All demonstrations must be
done within the confines of the finalist
booth.
 Nothing can be attached to the rear curtain
for display.
What Is a Research Plan?

Hypothesis:

Give the statement of the problem being studied or hypothesis of the project.

Purpose of Project / Rationale:

Explain the aim / reason for investigating your research project or why you have selected to test this
hypothesis?

Novelty / Originality:

How is your proposed research project different from existing work already done in this field / area of
subject?

Methods of Research:

Explain how you plan to research your topic. Summarize procedures, emphasizing the key points or
steps:

 What methods will you use, explain with summarization of key steps?
 What resources will be needed?
 Only include work to be done by the student. Work done by a teacher or mentor cannot be
included. Teacher or any other mentor can only guide or supervise when required.

Risk Assessment / Safety:

Identify any potential risks involved in conducting this experiment and list all the safety precautions
needed.

Data / Observations / Expected Outcomes:

Explain what data you will need to collect and how you will analyze it to obtain your results. Include:

 What data will you collect? How will you analyze your data? What results do you expect?
 Discuss the anticipated results and provide an understanding / explanation for them.

Conclusion / Applications / Future Scope:

State the conclusions or applications you hope to obtain from your anticipated results. What is the impact
of your work e.g. how does it benefit the environment / society etc? Link the conclusion to the initial
aims and purpose of your project.
