Metro Rail Corporation. Dr. Singh was born in a village of Uttar Pradesh near Najibabad and received his early education from his native place and later graduated in civil engineering from the highly prestigious University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1979 with an outstanding academic performance and also received Master of Science in sustainable development. Dr.Singh, has been awarded with the degree of honorary doctorate by a amity university in recognition of his outstanding work and leadership in the field of Metro technology in India. It is true that success comes to those who work hard and are determined to achieve their goals. As a student, Dr.Singh developed an interest to join the government sector and serve the community. It was his determination to enhance the welfare of the Indian citizens that propelled him to take the UPSC examination in 1981. After clearing the examination, He joined the Indian Railway Service of Engineers in 1983. Dr. Singh, then worked in the Indian Railways during his tenure with the organisation, he held various positions in the department of planning, procurement, and operations. Dr. Singh has contributed greatly in the project implementation of Metro in Delhi and Kolkata. Dr.Singh joined DMRC at inception in November 1997 in the capacity of Chief Engineer and moved upwards to executive director,Director and managing director. He has introduced new technologies and innovative methods of construction of Metro tunnels and structures to achieve economy, safety, quality and speed of construction. Dr. Singh has vast experience and expertise in construction of underground structures in Urban Environment hence considered the foremost tunneling expert and is also the President of the Tunneling Association of India (TAI). In addition, he has successfully headed the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects of Delhi Metro, the only such successful project in the Railway Transportation sector in the world. He has been instrumental in preparing the Master Plan and Detailed Project Reports for Metro system in other cities of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad. The credit for using Shield Tunnel Boring Machines and introducing New Austrian Tunneling Method for the first time in the INDIA goes to Dr. Singh. AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS Dr. Singh received the National Railway Week Award in 1996. For his great dedication and hard work in the successful implementation of the Kolkata Metro, He received the distinguished Alumni award at the Global Meet Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2007 and 2016 for being a role model to graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. For his vast experience in the construction of underground structures, Mangu Singh was given the Engineer of the Year award in 2012 by the Indian Institution of Engineers and is considered one of the most experienced engineer in the country today. He has also been awarded the 'Green Champion' by Indian Green Building Council. Dr. Singh has published many technical papers in National and International Journals/Conferences etc.
