Transmission System
The main components of the transmission system are: -
1) Planetary System
2) Torque Convertor
3) Clutch plates
4) Differential
Planetary System
The planetary system comprises of three components mainly; The ring
gear, sun gear and the planetary gear in the planetary casing. In a
Transmission system the input shaft is not directly connected to the
drive shaft but is connected through an intermediate shaft. Clutch
plates help in engaging and disengaging different planetary system
which can help in attaining different gear ratios.

For Example: - To attain the first gear the ring gear of the planetary
system will have to remain stationary while the sun gear rotates. When
only the sun gear rotates the output shaft will give one third rotation as
the input shaft.
Torque Convertor
A torque convertor is used to multiply the torque produced from the
engine. The main components of a torque convertor are; Turbine,
Pump and a reactor. The turbine rotates at a slower rpm than the
pump. A reactor is present between the turbine and the pump to
effectively drive the torque convertor. The reactor rotates in one
direction.
Consider a situation where the vehicle starts. The engine rotates the
pump but the turbine blades are rotating much lower. As a result, the
fluid flows almost axially towards the reactor and causes the fluid to
flow at the same direction as that of the rotation of the pump blades.
This causes the pump blades to have an increase in RPM and sends the
highly pressurized fluid back to the turbine blades amplifying the
torque. Hence the transmission and the vehicle recieves a greater level
of torque as the vehicle starts to move
